Clown with wings

I am your silence ...

I am your whisper ...

I'm the one who you close in your hand

when you look on the other side

from the dark street.

I'm the clown who keeps your wings!

That defends it with teeth and nails ...

Nails born of the hand that holds you ...

Teeth that glow in the  laughter of the dark street.

I'm the clown who has wings!

Palhaço com asas

Eu sou o teu silêncio...

Eu sou o teu sussurro...

Sou quem fechas na mão

quando olhas do outro lado,

do escuro da rua.

Eu sou o palhaço que guarda as tuas asas!

Que as defende com unhas e dentes...

Unhas nascidas da mão que te segura...

Dentes que brilham no riso da rua escura.

A big painting that is drying now. A landscape built from 2 photos from a a place called Carias, halfway between Montemor-o-Novo and Arraiolos. This is not a simple collage of 2 photo because there is no continuity. I rebuilt the space in order to organize the composition and give strenght to the group of trees on left.
You can still see my daughter Bia and compare the size of the painting, an intermediate stage of labor.


Um grande formato que está agora a secar. Uma paisagem construída com 2 fotos a partir do mesmo local, Carias, a meio caminho entre Montemor-o-Novo e Arraiolos. Não é uma simples colagem de 2 fotos porque não existia continuidade entre elas. Reconstruí o espaço para organizar a composição e dar força ao grupo de árvores do lado esquerdo. Também podem ver a minha filha Bia e comparar a escala numa fase intermédia de trabalho.

A shimmer day, when the clouds filter the light and the contrast is really neutral. There is no shadows, something apparently rare in our Alentejo's landscape. I soot some photos of this corktree in October, 12th, 2010, around 3 p.m after my father´s birthday lunch. One of his friends is the owner of this place and he invited me to go there to see this beautiful and majestic Quercus suber. After those first photos, I went there several times to made some drawings to support this painting. 


Um dia de luz difusa, com o céu nublado, por onde a luz é filtrada e o contraste é mesmo neutro. Não há sombras, coisa aparentemente rara nesta paisagem Alentejana. Fiz diversas fotos deste sobreiro a 12 de Outubro, 2010, por volta das 15 horas depois do almoço de aniversário do meu pai. Um dos seus amigos é o dono deste local e convidou-me para ir até ali para ver este lindíssimo e majestático Quercus suber. Depois daquelas primeiras fotos, fui até lá diversas vezes para fazer alguns desenhos de apoio a esta pintura.

Two drawings for the Carrara Art Fair in Italy through the Gallery Javier Roman of Malaga. They have the same dimensions and some similar aspects, mainly in technic approach, but the background is a little different. Specially  the modeling of  Quercus suber; 4D;17;Adua background.
Dois desenhos para a Feira de Arte Carrara em Itália através da Galeria Javier Roman de Málaga. Têm as mesmas dimensões e alguns aspectos semelhantes, principalmente na abordagem técnica, embora o segundo plano é um pouco diferente. Especialmente a modelagem do segundo plano do Quercus suber, 4D, 17; Adua.

This is the wall instalation called I-tree, with several groups of work: landscape, abstrac, drawings and so on. The general shape recalls a tree, a Quercus from Alentejo.
Esta é a instalação parietal intitulada I-Tree com vários grupos de trabalho: paisagens, abstracções, desenhos e assim por diante. A forma geral lembra uma árvore, um Quercus do Alentejo.


 


This is a challenge! This is work in progress with 150 x 300 cm. Now is just a drawing with green ink, but it will be finished by the end of the exhibition in May.
Also some of my students of Geometry. After all, geometry  can be joyfull. Aqui está um desafio! Esta é uma obra em construção com 150 x 300 cm. Agora é apenas um desenho com tinta verde, mas será concluída até o final da exposição, em Maio.
Também alguns dos meus alunos de Geometria. Afinal, a geometria pode ser alegre.

A drawing from December, 2010.  Collage with torn newspaper sheets and white water ink. Drawing  with calligraphic ink, indian ink and gouache. Glazing with Damar varnish and  Iron Oxide pigment.
Um desenho de Dezembro de 2010. Colagem com folhas rasgadas de jornais e tinta de água branca. Desenho com tinta caligráfica, tinta da china e guache. Velatura com verniz Damar  e pigmento de óxido de ferro.

Este quadro pertence a uma série realizada a partir de 2003 após a leitura do Livro de José Luís Peixoto (JLP), Nenhum Olhar. Em 2010 acrescentei elementos formais inspirados na leitura de Elements of Drawing de John Ruskin.

Desde 2003 até agora foram feitas muitas alterações e muitas pausas. A composição foi rodando desde uma posição invertida 180º. Agora está num compromisso entre a paisagem e o tronco que lhe deu estrutura formal. No Verão de 2003 houve uma terrível época de fogos que fustigaram muitos sobreiros e a paisagem ficou negra. Compreendi a fragilidade do meio ambiente. Dentro do vento Suão, é uma frase do livro de JLP que descreve o Alentejo canícula e que por coincidência lia nesses dias.

O Livro Nenhum Olhar, foi publicado pela primeira vez em 2000, e é a mais traduzida das suas novelas. Recebeu o Prémio José Saramago em 2001 e descreve um universo em que a paisagem rural Alentejana se mistura com elementos do fantástico.

This table belongs to a series held since 2003 after reading the book by José Luís Peixoto (JLP), Blank Gaze. In 2010 I added formal elements inspired by the reading of Elements of Drawing, John Ruskin. Since 2003 until now have been many changes and many pauses.  The composition has been running since an inverted 180º. Now is a compromise between the landscape and the trunk that gave formal structure. In summer 2003 there was a time of terrible fires that hit many cork trees and the landscape became black. I understood the fragility of the environment. Inside the Hot South wind is a phrase from JLP’s book that describes the Alentejo heatwave and by coincidence I read on those days. The book Blank Glaze, was first published in 2000, and is the most translated of his novels. He received the José Saramago Prize in 2001 and describes a universe in which the Alentejo country side blends with elements of fantasy.

Sun shining Christmas - Natal com sol radiante

After some last brush strokes of yesterday, this morning I took some photos outside of my Gallery and studio taking advantage of a beautifull Christmas sun shine. I liked also the palm tree shade.

Depois de algumas pinceladas finais de ontem, esta manhã tirei algumas fotografias no exterior da minha galeria e atelier aproveitando o maravilhoso sol radioso de Natal. Também gostei da sombra da palmeira.
